Competition Rules

1. The General Rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club shall apply, with the exception of local rules as printed on the score card or posted in the Clubhouse. Failure to comply shall result in disqualification from the competition.

 

2. Entry Fees for pre-entry events including knockouts must be paid at entry. Fees for all other competitions must be paid before teeing off. Failure to comply shall result in non-entry into the competition.

3. Members must have a ‘c’ handicap in order to enter any Club Trophy, Cup, Gold or Silver Medal Competition. Failure to comply shall result in non-entry into the competition.

4. Markers of all Competition Cards must hold an official club handicap. Failure to comply shall result in disqualification, of the player and the marker, from the competition.

5. Single cards may not be marked in a four ball game unless specified in Conditions for Competitions. Failure to comply shall result in disqualification, of the player and the marker, from the competition.

6. Pre Drawn start sheets may not be altered by members. Failure to comply shall result in a written warning. Persistent abuse shall result in non-eligibility from future competitions for a period to be determined by the Handicaps and Competitions Sub Committee.

7. Members unable to meet their tee times must notify the Pro Shop. Failure to comply shall result in a written warning. Persistent abuse shall result in non-eligibility from future competitions for a period to be determined by the Handicaps and Competitions Sub Committee.

8. Responsibility for playing knockout competitions.

a) Competitors shall acquaint themselves with the draw when posted.

b) The first named player / pair in each match is responsible for arranging the match within the due time. However all players involved have an equal responsibility to complete the match within the allocated time.

c) When competitors find it impossible to arrange a date for their match they should try and make a decision themselves, either by conceding or by other mutually agreed method. Failing this the matter will be decided by the competition committee.

d) Winners of matches are responsible for writing their names on the draw sheet in the next round. Failure to comply shall result in both competitors/teams being disqualified from the competition.

9. Request for extension. Requests for an extension must be made to a member of the Handicaps and Competitions Sub Committee prior to the scheduled date of play. Extensions will only be given in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the Handicaps and Competitions Sub Committee. Failure to comply shall result in both competitors/teams being disqualified from the competition.

10. Discontinued play, for any reason during Match Play competition must restart at that point on the course. Failure to comply shall result in both competitors/teams being disqualified from the competition.

11. Extra Holes. Generally defined in the rules of competition else see the Rules of Golf. Failure to comply shall result in both competitors/teams being disqualified from the competition.

12. Use of buggies. Only members with a doctor’s certificate, previously ratified by the Handicaps and Competitions Sub Committee and on file in the office, are allowed the use of a motorised buggy in any club competition. Failure to comply shall result in disqualification from the competition.
